
Life of the master
The founder of Isha foundation, Sadhguru, was born as Jaggi Vasudev in 1957 in Mysore, Karnataka. His mother was a housewife and his father an ophthalmologist working in Indian railways.
When he was 11 years old, he came in contact with Malladihalli Raghavendra, who inspired him to do yoga, and taught him hatha yoga. Since then he regularly practiced hatha yoga.
His schooling was at Demonstration School, Mysore and Mahajana Pre-University College. He graduated from the University of Mysore with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1973. After his graduation he started his business.
On 23 September 1982, he rode up to Chamundi Hill and sat on a rock where he got enlightened. After that he made plans about making the whole world experience what he experienced.
In 1983, he conducted his first yoga class in Mysore with 7 participants.
In 1992, he established the Isha foundation. There were many milestones achieved later on.
He finished consecrating he Dhyanalinga temple in 1999, the Linga Bhairavi temple in 2010 and the Adiyogi Shiva temple-statue in 2017.
He was awarded the Padma Bibhusan by the govt of India in 2017.

He moves throughout the world, conducting many yoga sessions, and inspiring people to reach their ultimate.
Organization
The Isha foundation began in 1992, at the foothills of Velliangiri mountains in Coimbatore.That is the head of the institution. The foundation is run entirely by volunteers and it has 9 million volunteers worldwide. It has more than 150 centers worldwide. It runs multiple schools, rural development programs, ecological development programs besides the spritual activities.
Teachings
Sadhguru’s teachings are based on advaita vedanta, yoga and tantra. He has spoken on all major religions of the world. He is also very vocal about current affairs and the need for people to turn inward for a better humanity. He conducts many programs, out of which the most popular and the flagship programme is “Inner engineering”, in which he gives sinple tools to take charge of life and initiates people into Shambhavi mahamudra. There are other programs besides that – Surya Kriya, Bhuta Shuddhi, Guru Pooja, Hatha yoga training, Upa yoga, Chit Shakti meditation etc.
All his books, videos music is available online in different ways- social media websites, official website, apps. Basic programs of Isha foundation – Upa yoga and Chit Shakti meditation are available for free in their official app.
